Inglorious BasterdsInglorious Basterds

This World War II classic is truly one of the best adventure movies with an ensemble casts that includes Brad Pit, Christoph Waltz, Michael Fassbender, Eli Roth, Melanie Laurent and a host of other talented actors. The plot of this action-adventure film is based on a fictional alternative history about 2 plots to assassinate the Third Reich (Nazi Germany’s political head). The movie sees a team of Nazi-opposing team of Jewish-American soldiers led by First Lieutenant Aldo Raine on one side of the plot, and another plot by a young French Jewish woman Shasanna Dreyfus. This is really an exciting and fantastic movie to watch and is also included in my manliest movies list.

The MartianThe Martian

When you think that you’ve seen it all on space-based sci-fi movies, then super director Ridley Scott makes you have a rethink. Set in the year 2035, this film tells how an astronaut named Mark Watney (played by Matt Damon) through his cleverness would survive the harsh elements of the “red planet” – Mars – after his crew (which was it by a storm) left the planet assumed he was dead after debris hit him. Coupled with the great visual effects, amazing musical score and the accurateness of the scientific concepts portrayed in the movie, it is no surprise that it was named as one of the top films in 2015 by various film critics, earning it a place in our list of best adventure movies

DeadpoolDeadpool

If you’ve followed closely all the X-Men movies released till date, you should have come across Ryan Reynolds in one of them – precisely in X-Men Origins: Wolverine; but not in a way you’d like. This time around however, he has come to wow us with his performance by playing as Wade Wilson, a former Special Forces operative turned antihero “Deadpool”; that goes on a hunt for the man that nearly destroyed his life while also trying to reunite with his lost love. This captivating movie features action, adventure, romance and so much more. Other casts members include Morena Baccarin who plays Wade’s love interest Vanessa, Ed Skrien, T.J Miller and a host of others.

ZombielandZombieland

Moving a step further is Zombieland. This film follows the plot of a nerdy college boy Columbus, after a zombie apocalypse trying to make his way as a survivor searching for his parents. He meets 3 other survivors along the way who together search for a place free from zombies. The film stars Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg (who plays the college kid Columbus), Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin who together are casts as sisters. Coupled with its intriguing adventure, this film is also a horror movie laced with some comedy.

GoldfingerGoldfinger

Our sixth pick for the best adventure movies is Goldfinger. This 1964 James Bond thriller is the third in the James Bond series as well as the third time actor Sean Connery would take the titular role of the MI6 special agent James Bond. The plot of this spy movie centers on an investigation by Bond on gold magnate Auric Goldfinger bordering on his gold smuggling and criminal activities. James Bond finally uncovers Goldfinger’s plans to contaminate the US Bullion Depository at Fort Knox. The film went on to become the first James Bond movie to win an Oscars. The movie would go on to become a hit at the box office garnering more than 30 times its budget.

GladiatorGladiator

Next on the list of best adventure movies is Gladiator. This epic movie features actor Russel Crowe as the lead character Maximus and Ridley Scott as director. The plot is about a Hispano-Roman general named Maximus, who is betrayed when the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius was murdered by his own son Commodus and subsequently takes the throne. General Maximus is then forced to a life of slavery where eventually he is made to rise through the ranks of the arena as a gladiator in order to avenge the killings of his family and his emperor. This historical movie is a must watch for the adventurous mind.

The TerminatorThe Terminator

Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger as the Terminator, a cyborg assassin disguised as a human who was sent from the future in 2029 to present day 1984 to kill a woman named Sarah Connor, whose son John Connor is to be mankind’s savior against machines in the future. Linda Hamilton plays the role of Sarah Connor while actor Michael Biehn plays Kyle Reese who was also sent from the future by John Connor to protect his mother. This action-adventure thriller still enthralls viewers just as much as it did more than two decades ago. How do you expect an awesome movie like this to be left out on our list of best adventure movies?

The Treasure of the Sierra MadreThe Treasure of the Sierra Madre

For the ninth position on our list of best adventure movies comes a fantastic adventure movie directed by John Huston and starring Humphrey Bogart, Walter Huston, Tim Holt and Bruce Bennet as the main casts. The film follows the adventures of two Americans Dobbs and Curtin desperate to be financially wealthy after they were cheated out of their promised wages. After several misfortunes these two men set out on a quest to find gold in the Sierra Madre Mountains in Mexico; after they are joined by a gold prospect named Howard. This movie teaches about the consequence of greed while adding a little action to it and is one of the best best adventure movies to watch.

The first installment in the Die Hard franchise that brought the rise to stardom of actor Bruce Willis is still a standard for many action movies today. Directed by John McTierman, the film follows the adventure of NYPD officer John McClane (played by Willis) as he takes on a group of criminals led by Hans Gruber who in the guise of a terrorist attack burgled a skyscraper in Los Angeles taking hostages including John’s wife Holly.
